Two adventurous pianists play together for the first time – on two grand pianos.
Matthew Bourne is a passionate explorer of sound with a reputation as a fearlessly unpredictable pianist and composer. Following his celebrated analogue synth projects moogmemory and Radioland: Radio-Activity Revisited, Bourne now returns to the piano.
“Matthew Bourne is both a strikingly talented jazz/improv musician and a boldly adventurous composer” – Uncut
Joining him on the second grand piano is fellow Leeds-based pianist, composer Laura Cole fresh from her acclaimed solo double album Enough' (Discus) last year.
“Cole succeeds in exploring divergent avenues of expression,.. revealing a quietly emphatic sense of space” – The Wire.
Opening the concert is the acoustic trio Isotach of Bourne’s most recent album release. With an atmospheric, wide open palette, piano, cello and viola delicately circle each other. Space, a hymn-like reverence and harmonic beauty permeate this exquisite suite of instrumental songs.
